Embrace Natural Living: Discover the Joy of Natural Soap

3 min read

When I first started making soap nearly ten years ago, it was simply a way to use up the many essential oils I had collected. What began as a small experiment quickly grew into a passion and a lifestyle. As a mother of three, my husband and I have always prioritized natural, healthy living—from growing a large garden to baking our own bread and even keeping backyard chickens. Making natural soap felt like the perfect next step to support our family’s wellness and embrace a more wholesome way of life.

Why Natural Soap Matters

Natural soap is different from the mass-produced bars you find in stores. Most commercial soaps contain synthetic detergents, harsh chemicals, and artificial fragrances that can strip your skin of its natural oils. In contrast, handmade natural soap uses simple, wholesome ingredients like plant-based oils, butters, and essential oils. These ingredients nourish your skin, leaving it soft and hydrated rather than dry or irritated.

Here’s why natural soap stands out:

  • Gentle on skin: Natural soap maintains the skin’s natural pH balance and contains no harsh chemicals.

  • Environmentally friendly: Ingredients are biodegradable and are sustainably sourced.

  • Rich in nutrients: Oils like olive, coconut, and shea butter provide vitamins and antioxidants.

  • Unique scents: Essential oils and natural derived fragrance oils can offer a safe, more natural, therapeutic aromas without harmful additives.

Using natural soap becomes more than just cleansing—it’s a small act of self-care- I often hear that my soaps become a daily ritual- that supports both one's own health and wellness and the planet.

How Soap Making Became My Passion

I dove into soap making by watching countless videos and reading everything I could find about the craft. I learned about the chemistry behind saponification, the importance of curing times, and how different oils affect the final product. The more I learned, the more obsessed I became.

Soon, I was producing more soap than my family could use. That’s when I decided to turn my hobby into a business. Sharing these little bars of handmade joy with others felt incredibly rewarding. Each bar is like a tiny piece of art, crafted with love, intention, and care. For me, soap making is not just about the product—it’s about the creative process and the wellness it brings to daily life.

The Power of Daily Rituals with Natural Soap

Incorporating natural soap into your daily routine can transform simple tasks into meaningful rituals. When you start your day with a bar made from pure ingredients and infused with calming scents, it sets a positive tone for the day or evening ahead.

Here’s how natural soap can enhance your daily rituals:

  • Mindful cleansing: Taking a moment to appreciate the scent and texture encourages mindfulness.

  • Skin nourishment: Regular use supports healthy, glowing skin.

  • Stress relief: Aromatherapy benefits from the scents can help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.

  • Family connection: Sharing these rituals with loved ones builds a sense of care and wellness at home.

I invite you to explore how my natural soaps can become part of your wellness routine and bring a little more joy to everyday moments.

How You Can Start Making Soap at Home

If you’re curious about making your own natural soap, it’s easier than you might think! Here are some simple steps to get started:

  1. Gather basic ingredients: Oils and /or fats, lye (sodium hydroxide), distilled water, and your favorite essential oils or fragrances.

  2. Learn safety first: Handling lye requires caution—wear gloves and goggles, and work in a well-ventilated area.

  3. Follow a trusted recipe: Start with a beginner-friendly cold process soap recipe.

  4. Mix and pour: Combine oils and lye solution carefully, then add essential oils and pour into molds.

  5. Cure your soap: Let the bars cure for 4-6 weeks to harden and become mild.
